Door
Date: Feb. 6, 1998
Models: 1998
BR/BE Ram Truck with Quad Cab
Discussion:
Under certain door closing conditions, the upper rear corner of the front door
may come in contact with the upper front corner of the cargo door causing paint
to chip off one or both doors.
Diagnosis:
Inspect the upper front corner of the cargo door for witness marks from the
front door contacting the cargo door. If there are any witness marks that could
be coming from the front door, perform the repair procedure.
Parts:
2 55275506AA Molding, Anti-chip
Repair:
Repair any paint chips and install an anti-chip molding on both front doors.
-
Clean the upper front door hem flange area and any
chipped area of the cargo door with soap and water to remove all water
soluble contaminants. Dry carefully with air and clean towels.
-
Clean the upper front door hem flange area and any
chipped area of the cargo door with wax and grease remover. Follow the
label instruction on the product used.
-
Use touch-up paint to repair any areas of the front
or cargo doors that have been chipped. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly.
-
Peel the protective cover from the molding's adhesive
strip. Then align the top of the molding with the upper edge of the front
door to the radius tangent. In addition, the lip of the molding should
cover the rolled edge of the hem flange (Fig 1).
-
Apply pressure to the outer surface of the molding
to ensure proper adhesion.
-
Perform the same procedure to the doors on the other
side of the vehicle.
