This bulletin supersedes TSB 23-27-96. Vehicles have been added to the list because of the grille types being used. Note: TSB 23-58-98 is similar for sport Rams.
Models: 1996-1997 BR trucks
Symptoms:
Vehicles may exhibit a condition where a wind noise whistle occurs from the front of the vehicle. This condition can occur while driving the vehicle at highway speeds between 45 and 65 MPH or slower speeds when driving into a headwind.
Diagnosis:
Open the hood and inspect the INSIDE center of the grille casting in the middle of the center vertical bar. There will be a cavity number from the mold used in the manufacture of the grille. If the cavity number is CAV3 OR CAV4, continue with the diagnosis. If not these numbers, then the grille is NOT the likely source of the wind noise.
Drive the vehicle between 45-65 mph in non-tubulent conditions (not following another vehicles wake). Verify the wind noise comes from the front of the vehicle. Place a strip of tape (wide masking tape is fine), over the gap between the grille and the hood from one side to the other across the hood.
Parts:
5 feet 04882735 30 foot roll of 1/4"
thick by 3/8" wide Closed cell PVC
foam tape installed between the grille and hood gap.
