MODELS: 1997 (BR) Ram Pickup
DISCUSSION:
During the vehicle assembly process, a translucent urethane primer
is applied to the inside outer perimeter of the windshield/backlight. Sometimes,
the primer may extend beyond the urethane bonding area when the primer
is applied to the windshield/backlight. When the primer dries, it leaves
a film on the windshield/backlight that may become difficult to remove.
If you encounter a film around the inside outer perimeter of the windshield/backlight
that is difficult to remove, perform the following Repair Procedure.
NOTE: DO NOT REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD/BACKLIGHT IF THE FILM OF URETHANE
PRIMER IS DIFFICULT TO REMOVE.
Repair:
Mask the black band that is around the perimeter of the windshield/backlight
and on the backlight defroster heating grids (if necessary) that are near
the area to be cleaned. Use very fine (0000) steel wool and moderate pressures
to rub off the film in the affected areas.
NOTE: DO NOT RUB ON THE BLACK BAND THAT IS AROUND THE PERIMETER OF THE WINDSHIELD/BACKLIGHT OR THE BACKLIGHT DEFROSTER HEATING GRID AS EXCESSIVE RUBBING AND PRESSURE WILL DAMAGE THE SURFACE.
After all of the film has been removed, clean the entire surface with Mopar Glass Cleaner, p/n04318014.
NOTE: USE ONLY VERY FINE (0000) STEEL WOOL FOR THIS PROCEDURE. ANY OTHER TYPE OF ABRASIVE CLEANING PADS OR MATERIALS MAY SCRATCH THE GLASS.
