Had an excellent buying experience at Stew Hanson. Sales person went out of
his way to make sure we were happy. Even added a bedliner for my Dakota. Service
department needs a lot of attention. I brought my truck in because the check
engine light came on and the guy who came to help was very rude and acted like
I was an interruption in his day, and that he was only looking to get rid of
me so he could leave. He said he couldn't get me in to look and my vehicle,
didn't even look at the schedule for Saturday, but was sure that it was jammed.
I asked him if he could call another dealership for me and he quickly dismissed
that idea. I don't know if all of the service department is like that, or if
it is due to the fact that my truck only has 8500 miles on it and it would be
warranty work, but I know that anything that I need fixed, and I am paying for
I will definitely shop

I am very pleased with the overall experience of buying a used vehicle. I am
a recent widow with a young daughter. The thought of used car salesmen can be
very intimidating. I was very pleased with JD. I am going to look for a second
vehicle and will contact him. I trust him to be honest and straight forward.

I have purchased several vehicles from Stew Hansen, but it takes one experience
to cancel out all the good. The last vehicle I purchased was a 2002 Dodge Ram
that I had problems with from the start, an alarm sounding with the ABS light
flashing momentarily. My new wife thinks the truck is unsafe as this concerns
the braking system and is apprehensive about riding in it. I would have to drive
from Oskaloosa to Des Moines and spend several hours while they researched the
problem among themselves and even with Chrysler which took longer. I had the
truck up there several times, I'm talking more than five. I finally wrote to
Chrysler and to Stew Hansen August 2004. Chrysler said take it back in and try
this. Stew Hansen said nothing. Not even an acknowledgement that he received
the letter. In February 2005 I had had enough of the warning light and alarm
so I called the service department at Stew Hansen and asked if I had to tell
a dealership I traded the truck in to about the trouble I was having as I was
thinking about getting a Chevy as Dodge was doing nothing to resolve the problem.
The service tech told me that I didn't have to tell nothing other than any damage,
and he hoped I enjoyed my new Chevy. Really made me want to buy another Dodge.
I tried to tell them I thought this was a lemon, but they kept talking around
the subject.

To Whom it May Concern: I have bought a car off of J.D. in the used Car department
at Stew Handsen's Dodge City and my experience was nothing like the one I read
on this page. After my purchase I went to this site to post my satisfaction,
as the manager of the dealership told me about the page and said how I could
go in and rate my experience with their dealership. I was very surprised to
find the two posted comments about my car salesman. He was very experienced
and helped me get to the payment that I needed to be at. He helped with the
financing and his mangers were very helpful as well. JD even went as far as
driving my vehicle across town to get some minor changes I wanted done and then
drove 2 hours to deliver the car to me. That is great salesmanship and I'm glad
that I went to Stew Hansen's and bought my vehicle from JD. He was nothing but
nice, considerate and knowledgeable with me. I suppose it's a difference in
opinion.

I bought a used car from J.D. and it was one of the best experiences that I've
had at a dealership. He knew a lot about the car and was willing to put the
time in to answer all my questions. I will definitely buy another car from J.D.
Thanks Jon!

I had a wonderful purchase experience (salesman Larry Castognoli). He treated
me (a woman!) like I was an intelligent human being (can't say the same for
other dealerships I visited). I got an excellent deal and a great Grand Caravan.
I have been contacted a couple of times since then to be sure there isn't anything
further that they can do for us (and that is even after the "survey"
feedback time). I am recommending them (him) to other professionals that I know
who are in the market for a new vehicle.

This dealership has to many people to take the blame, not one person will fallow
things threw with out blaming another department. really had to baby-sit them,
was not able to talk to person that work on truck because they don't allow it!!
Damage the truck paint and had to repaint door. Was told thing they did not
do, and drove 3000 miles with faulty drive shaft and was not told the yokes
were leaking. Trust your gut feeling with these jokers.

Avoid J.D.in used sales at all costs. WHAT A BONEHEAD. NO KNOWLEDGE, NO PERSONALITY
NO WAY will I or anyone I can tell, buy a vehicle from him. I'm wondering what
to think of a dealership that employs someone with no clue. Maybe one correct
answer out of 5 questions should be o.k., but, that was what's your Name. J.D.

Terrible used sales person. J.D. is his name. Used car sales manager no better.
Misquoted prices of vehicles, treated us poorly and the last line by J.D. was
I don't need my time wasted by you. We were there to buy a used vehicle. We
knew what we wanted, had financing arranged and also, had the cash difference
on our trade-in. No effort what so ever by J.D. to be polite or to even try
and sell us a vehicle. Maybe a bad day for J.D. and his Manager. I don't think
so. We would rather walk then buy a used vehicle from Stew Hansen's Dodge in
Des Moines, Iowa. J.D. also made sure to let us know he has 3 years of experience.
He must of said this to cover the fact that he couldn't answer any questions
regarding their financing options, differences in vehicles we were looking at,
trade-in price (other than, you sure are upside down), loan length depending
on vehicle year or what type of chew he uses. Thanks to J.D. and the used vehicle
manager for pointing us in a better direction.

Stew Hanson Dodge in Des Moines has bent over backwards to repair or make right
anything I or others have questioned. Replaced one tranny, three clutches, thermostat
and will have a four wheel alignment done Friday. All just on my word. No diagnostics.
Mike Fitzpatrick is the one I usually deal with, but they all seem to be good
guys. The mechanics are another story, but they just follow orders. I drive
155 miles one way to let these guys work on my truck. Well worth the trip...T

Sales=Excellent, Service=Excellent,
Was referred by three other people, two of which bought trucks there sight unseen.
To follow suit, saw a truck in the lot on Friday after closing, called up there
Monday, and owned the truck by noon, from 155 miles away. Five star dealer,
in the top five in the nation every year for sales and service, and they beat
all others in Iowa and Missouri on price thru "Business Link". I will never
go anywhere else for sales or service, whether for business or pleasure vehicles.
