Our 1995 Dodge truck was diagnosed by an independent mechanic as having a bad
PCM which caused low power and bad pinging. When we took the truck in to Elk
Grove Dodge to have the PCM replaced (required in order to have it covered by
the service plan) we made a 7:30 appointment. They failed to call us on time,
failed to even look at the truck on time, failed to diagnose the problem (they
said this was normal, that these trucks with the 5.9 V8 were "Pigs"
and that if we wanted power we should've gotten the smaller engine), and charged
for 2.5 hrs. labor (from 4:00pm when we called them and were told the truck
was just being brought in until 5:15pm when they finally called back to tell
us nothing was wrong - do the math) to perform the same diagnosis that our mechanic
did in 30 minutes.
We spent two weeks of phone calls, arguments, being told that we didn't know
what we were talking about, being told to "just get used to it, your truck
will never have the kind of power you expect - it's just going to be slow,"
and being told by the shop foreman that we were insulting him and his staff
by questioning why they found nothing wrong when the truck simply did not meet
the specifications outlined in Chrysler's factory service manual. The Service
manager FINALLY refunded the $135 they charged to tell us nothing was wrong,
after this two weeks of hell.
The next day we took the truck to another service dept who diagnosed the problem
in less than 30 mins. and had it repaired in another 30 mins.

I took my '99 Dakota in for service under my Service Contract. I asked them
to repair the worn ball joints & inner tie-rod ends that were causing all
sorts of noises and looseness in the steering/suspension. Instead, they replaced
the steering box and intermediate shaft. They had the truck for almost three
weeks while waiting on parts, and put in a supposedly "reman" steering
box that is worn-out and far worse than the original they replaced. It took
three MORE visits and two written estimates from independent alignment shops
to get them to replace SOME of the worn-out parts. They still haven't fixed
all of the worn-out ball joints or the worn-out steering box and refuse to admit
that >.130" of play in the ball joints is excessive. They claim that
nothing is wrong and that it is normal to experience the looseness in the steering
and clunks in the suspension that our truck now has.
While they had my truck, they put a small dent in the fender, spilled large
quantities of power steering fluid all over the engine bay which left puddles
for days every time we parked the truck, and then forgot to fill the power steering
reservoir after installing the steering box (I had to buy a quart of PS fluid
just to get the truck home). They also lost one of the front lug nuts when the
wheel was off, and lost the caps off all five remaining lug nuts.
The service manager was a nice guy but worthless in actually getting things
fixed. Jeff, the service writer, was nice at first, but he became very indifferent
and uncooperative when I showed him what was wrong and called them on the multiple
incorrect diagnosis. Jeff's claim: "we don't let customers tell us what's
wrong, it doesn't work that way. We will tell you what is wrong and that's that."
I am now trying to get another steering box installed to replace the bad one
that Elk Grove Dodge installed.
I would avoid this dealership at all costs. They were just 15 mins. from my
home however I would rather drive the 45 mins up to Sacramento than go to Elk
Grove Dodge.
