Sales=Poor, Service=Poor, bought there=No, scv_there=Yes,
When I looking for my Cummins Dodge 2500 back in 99 I went to my hometown Dodge
dealer, Barber and the sale rep didn't have a clue what a Cummins Ram was. I
was referred to the sales manager who knew what they were but that was about
all even though they had 2 on their lot. They were over priced and I went to
Vacaville Dodge and bought there with a COSTCO program and paid less that the
sticker price. NOw for Barbers service or lack of. A couple of weeks ago the
engine started loping at idle, like it was a gas engine with a hot cam, and
then it started being hard to start. I figured it was the lift pump but my computer
was down and I couldn't go online to check out all the info that's out there
on the lift pump problems so I called Barber and they told me the pump was in
the fuel tank and cost $360. plus tax and of course installation. Trying to
be intelligent about this and having replaced in tank fuel pumps before I took
it in for a diagnostic check. I made and appointment but when I got there it
was an appointment to get in line. They did give me a shuttle ride home. I then
got smart and got out some copies of the TDR and called some of the vendors
and they all said it was definitely the lift pump which is on the engine and
not in the tank. Then i called Cummins and there pump was $160. including tax.
I tried to stop Barber from touching my truck but they had already started.
I spoke with the mechanic who was a very competent mechanic but obviously not
a diesel mechanic. The computer said it was the injector pump and should be
covered by the Cummins 100,000 mile warranty. I have 85.000 on the truck. Before
Dodge would commit to a $1500. pump they wanted a fuel pressure test done so
I brought the truck back and told them I had to have the truck back by 2pm to
pick up my kids at school--no problem! At 3:30 they called and said it was done.
Now it's the lift pump which isn't under the warranty because "according
to Dodge" the lift pump is on the outside of the engine and things there
aren't covered and of course because at 85,00 mile I was 923 miles over the
100,000 mile warranty. She kept mixing up the lift pump with the injector pump
while she was feeding me this line. I went to Cummins and bought the pump and
put it in. I'm still waiting to see if they are going to charge me extra to
tell me that the pump I said was the problem was the problem.
